Ken Maynard, creator of “The Ettamogah Mob”, submitted his first cartoons to ‘The Post’ magazine during the 1950s, while working as a traffic policeman in Melbourne. Titled ‘Ned and His Neddy’, it featured a lanky drover and his faithful goggle-eyed horse.
Ken’s childhood experience around rabbit traps, horses and the Murray River in the Albury district of New South Wales gave him a rare insight into the Australian persona. Ken’s cartoons contain a host of ‘fair dinkum’ Australian characters in situations, and with attitudes that a broad cross section can relate to.
